Loss Control Services Introduction

LOSS CONTROL SERVICES INTRODUCTION

This section contains a listing of the loss control services which CVMIC can provide to its members. These services are generally provided at the member's facilities. Contact the CVMIC Loss Control Department to schedule any of the services listed on the following pages.
INSPECTIONS:
Facility Inspections

Conduct a walk through inspection to determine compliance with State & Federal codes. A report is generated and recommendation made to bring the facility into compliance.

Mock Department of Commerce Inspection

Conduct a walk through inspection of facilities and review appropriate policies and programs to ensure compliance with Department of Commerce regulations. A report is generated, recommendations made and supporting documents provided to assist the member in coming into compliance with the Department of Commerce.

Playground Inspection

Conduct a walk through inspection of one or more playgrounds to determine compliance with nationally accepted playground recommendations/guidelines. A report is generated and recommendations made.

SAFETY COMMITTEES:
Work with member safety committees assisting in long-range planning, team building and as a general resource, providing information on a wide range of issues and concerns.
SITE MEETINGS:
Meet with elected, administrative, supervisory and field personnel to evaluate member safety and loss control programs and provide assistance and direction in developing or enhancing their programs.
RISK MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT & ANNUAL WORKPLAN:
Conduct an annual evaluation of each member using the Risk Management Assessment Instrument. Based on the evaluation, work with the member to develop a workplan to address loss control deficiencies identified through the evaluation.
TRAINING:
Regional Training

Identify, coordinate and/or develop and present regional training programs to meet the needs of members. A wide-range of programs are conducted each year based on organizational needs as identified through the risk management assessment process and through discussions with members.

Member Specific Training

Conduct training for individual members to assist them in addressing a specific loss control or safety concern/need.

Provide resource documents, model policies and other information to support member efforts to improve safety, loss control and risk management practices.
SAFETY ANALYSIS:
Work with members to assess safety concerns and determine the most appropriate approach in addressing those concerns.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:
Assist members in coming into compliance with a specific code, regulation, law, or Department of Commerce Inspection citation.
SAFETY RULES:
To assist members in the review and update of their safety rules. (CVMIC also maintains a sample set of safety rules.)
RESOURCE DOCUMENTS:
Provide resource documents and other information to support member efforts to improve safety, loss control and risk management practices.
ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENTS:
Can analyze workstations, collect data and make recommendations based upon "best ergonomic" practices and guidelines. Training can be tailored to meet each municipalities needs, but generally consists of a review of common cumulative trauma disorders, office workstation design, ergonomic seating, the principles of ergonomics, and why addressing ergonomic issues is beneficial.
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE:
To conduct sound level monitoring and noise dosimetry testing to determine noise levels throughout the municipality.
VIDEOS:
Review videos recommended by members for purchase by CVMIC and recommend videos from the CVMIC library to address a specific safety or risk management concern.
LOSS TREND ANALYSIS:
To assist members in the review of their loss runs to identify trends and recommend activities/programs to address problem areas.
SAFETY AWARENESS:
To assist members in establishing a safety awareness program and providing safety awareness materials to enhance their programs.
RISK MANAGEMENT/SAFETY REVIEW:
Review of risk management/safety policies, procedures, practice contracts, etc. The focus is on the identification and assessment of loss exposure associated with specific issues, programs, processes or events. One of the goals is to involve members in the risk management process and provide information and resources they need to identify, manage or transfer risk in an efficient and legally acceptable manner.
