Program Description: You just promoted one of your star employees to a supervisory position. The employee has great technical skills but has limited experience as a supervisor. This new supervisor will learn everything they need to know to be an exceptional supervisor by:

a. Trial and error (normal operating procedure)
b. One on one training by their supervisor (who has an abundance of time available to train a new supervisor)
c. Attending evening courses at the technical college (over the next 2 – 5 years)
d. Attending CVMIC’s new “New Supervisor Orientation” program (and continuing through the Certificate of Supervision series)

The intent of this program is to provide a new supervisor with an extensive resource manual and walk the new supervisor through all of the important areas that they will need to become familiar with, over time, to become an effective supervisor. Listed below is an outline of the program.

Much of the material we will cover in this program is a highly condensed version of our Certificate of Supervision series. The purpose for this program is to lay out a foundation for future learning. For a new supervisor they often get in trouble, not intentionally, but due to the fact that they “don’t know what they don’t know”. They would have done the right thing at the time had they known what that was. In this program we will tell them all the areas that a supervisor should become competent in and we will also provide them with resources and alternatives on how to gain competency in each area.

They will not leave this training competent in each area. But they will leave with a strong understanding of what they need to learn in the future and where to go to gain that knowledge.
