This increased attention is here to stay for the foreseeable future with an upcoming federal election and with overturn of prior administrations fully complete at relevant state and federal agencies. To stay ahead of potential issues\, such as audits or wage and hour claims\, public sector employers need to develop and maintain a solid understanding of state and federal wage and hour laws\, such as how to appropriately designate a position as exempt vs. non-exempt\, the impact of an improper designation\, and common travel time issues. \nThis one-hour training is designed to help supervisors develop a greater understanding of: \n\nHow to analyze a position for exempt vs. non-exempt status under the Fair Labor Standards Act\nPractices to minimize overtime liability should an employee claim they are improperly classified as exempt.\nCommon positions of employment that become subject to a classification dispute.\nThe legal and practical impacts of improperly designating an employee as exempt\, and employer actions that can accidentally undo a proper classification.\nCommon travel time issues under the FLSA\, such as travel to and from offsite trainings.\n\nPresenter:\n \nRyan Heiden \nAttorney \nVon Briesen & Roper\, s.c. \nRyan Heiden is a Shareholder in the Government Law Group where he focuses his practice on school law and public sector labor and employment issues. \nRyan helps public sector employers navigate and minimize risk with respect to a wide range of complex and sensitive labor and employment issues by providing employers with trusted and practical guidance. Her impact is amplified through strengthening each person’s allyship. \nAfter receiving her Diversity & Inclusion certification from Cornell University\, Lisa launched her Inclusion Ally business.
