This virtual event addresses the principles and practices of securing cargo for transport.
Topics include:
• Proper selection and use of tie-down equipment (ropes, straps, chains, tensioning devices)
• Calculating working load limits and aggregate strength requirements
• Correct attachment of tie-downs to vehicles (hooks, bolts, rails, rings)
• Use of header boards (“headache racks”) for forward cargo protection
• Safe and efficient loading/unloading techniques
• Preventing cargo theft and ensuring compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations
PRESENTER:
Christian Green, CVMIC Safety & Risk Management Specialist

Christian joined Cities and Villages Mutual Insurance Company in February, 2024 as a Safety & Risk Management Specialist. Christian earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Prior to joining CVMIC, Christian worked as the on-site Safety Coordinator for a manufacturing company for 4 years, then as a Safety Consultant for the private sector for 3.5 years where he serviced clients with all safety-related activities.
Target Audience: All municipal employees that haul equipment on city/village property or public roadways.
