DNR – Used Oil and Proposed Rules

Description:

This training will highlight what is considered used oil, different regulations pertaining to used oil management and activities, and other oil-related requirements including managing used antifreeze. In addition, proposed rule writing and opportunities for public comment will be covered. Three proposed rules are being developed and include the addition of aerosol cans as universal waste, modernizing ignitable liquid determinations and technical corrections and clarifications. A summary of guidance documents and useful links will be contained in the presentation materials.

Presenter:

Cathy Baerwald has been working in the environmental field for over 25 years. She attended Milwaukee Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she interned at a municipal health department and landfill. Her past work experience includes working as a Hazardous Materials Technician, an operator at municipal water and wastewater utilities, and performing TCLP tests in an environmental lab. Cathy has been at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for 8 years and has written wastewater permits, conducted hazardous waste inspection and currently is an Advanced Waste Management Specialist/Policy Specialist where she is writing new regulations and working on authorization of the rules with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Cathy is also the used oil expert for the Hazardous Waste Program, writes guidance documents, and delivers presentations to stakeholders and training to department staff.
